 ********************************************************************************************Call for Nominations for 2007-08 ARIA’s Board Nominations for the 2007 ARIA election slate should be sent to Larry Cox at lcox@bus.olemiss.edu by January 24.  The final slate of nominees will include two candidates for the position of Vice President and two candidates each for a board positions representing industry and a board position representing academia.  You are not required to provide a nomination for each office.  For each name you provide, please indicate the position for which you'd like to have the individual slated.  Thank you.

 

David Garrick Halmstad Prize It is with great pleasure that we announce the following paper was awarded the David Garrick Halmstad Prize in December 2006:             Reinsurance Arrangements Maximizing Insurer's Survival Probability published in The Journal of Risk and Insurance, 2004, Vol. 71, No. 3, 421-435.  Author Leslaw Gajek works at the Institute of Mathematics, Technical University of Lodz in Lodz, Poland, and coauthor Dariusz Zagrodny works at the Faculty of Mathematics, Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw, Poland.  Congratulations!The David Garrick Halmstad prize is given annually for actuarial research in memory of David Halmstad, an Associate of the Society, for his significant contributions to actuarial science and research.  Funds for the prize were contributed in Mr. Halmstad's memory by his friends and colleagues. To select the best paper on actuarial research published each year, a committee of the Society's Education and Research Section examines major English language actuarial journals, nominates outstanding papers, reviews the selected articles, and votes for the best paper.  The results of these proceedings are submitted to the Actuarial Education and Research Fund Committee of The Actuarial Foundation for the final selection.  This award follows the year of publication rather than the actual calendar year.

PASSPORT REQUIRED FOR TRAVEL TO CANADA To the many of you who are world-wide travelers, you are probably aware that a passport will be required for travel to Canada for this year’s annual meeting.  Please pass this bit of information along to your students, other faculty members, and colleagues who might not be aware of this requirement.

Results of the recent annual meeting survey have been analyzed and Portland will the site for the 2008 ARIA Annual Meeting.
