ARIA 2008 Annual MeetingAugust 3-6, 2008 Marriott Portland Downtown Waterfront HotelPortland, Oregon 97201 This year’s annual meeting program provides an interesting and informative mix of 5 plenary sessions and 90 research papers organized in concurrent sessions covering a broad range of topics in risk management and insurance. The Welcome Reception on Sunday evening, August 3 will feature wine and beer selections from local Portland vineyards and brewers. As was instituted at last year’s meeting in Quebec City, we have again designated Monday, August 4 as Industry Day. The opening day of the meeting will feature two plenary sessions and two sets of concurrent sessions addressing issues and applied research that are expected to be of particular interest to risk management and insurance professionals. There will be a one-day reduced registration fee on Monday only for non-academic participants who wish to attend the meeting. The One-Day Industry Day Registration Form will be available on ARIA’s website or by calling the executive office at 610-640-1997. The ARIA Executive Office has also arranged for a special river boat cruise as the culmination of Industry Day. Please see the attached document for additional details. In addition to the breakfasts and receptions, meeting participants are invited to the President’s Luncheon on Monday, August 4 and the Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, August 5. The other two days of the meeting offer a diverse range of paper presentations and three additional plenary sessions covering upcoming election issues, a tutorial related to providing expert services, and a presentation by the winner of the Les Strickler Innovation in Instruction Award. Don’t miss it! Meeting Registration: Special Note: Meeting registration materials will not be mailed this year. Please use the attached registration form or visit the ARIA website at www.aria.org for the annual meeting registration form and meeting updates. *** Be sure to mark all events you plan to attend on the registration form *** Please return the registration form and payment directly to the ARIA Executive Office. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover Cards are accepted for payment. Checks (US dollars please) should be made payable to ARIA. If you prefer to fax your registration form, the fax number is 610-725-1007. Keep in mind the registration fee increases after July 11, 2008. No refunds are available after July 31. Spouses/GuestsSpouses and guests will be charged the cost of breakfasts, luncheons, and/or receptions as indicated on the meeting registration form. Please be sure to mark all events that your spouses/guests plan to attend. The conference room rate is $179 single/double and this conference rate is not available through an internet service. After this date, ARIA’s room block will be released and the hotel will provide rooms at the conference rate only if space is available. Book your reservation now! Sunday, August 3:The registration desk will open at 3:00 pm. A First-Time Attendees Reception at 5:00 pm will be followed by a 5:30 – 7:00 pm Wine and Beer Tasting Welcome Reception.Monday, August 4: In celebration of ARIA’s 75^th birthday, there will be a cruise with hors d’oeuvres and beverages aboard the Portland Spirit on the Willamette River from 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm. Boarding will begin at 6:30 pm at the Portland Spirit Dock, which is within walking distance to the Marriott Hotel. All attendees over 18 years of age must present photo ID. Tickets are also required for boarding and will be provided inside your name badges for those attending. Preliminary Program We will post the preliminary program on the ARIA website as soon as it becomes available. Special Needs Anyone with special physical or dietary needs should inform the executive office when registering.

2008-09 ARIA Election Ballots Electronic ballots and biographies have been distributed to all current ARIA members. We have a good slate of candidates, so please take a few minutes and cast your vote. Thank you to members who have voted! The deadline to vote is May 9.
