University of Tulsa The University of Tulsa is accepting applications for a Visiting Professor of Finance for the 2008-09 academic year. Applicants in all areas of Finance will be considered.  Please see the attached document for additional details.

Call for Nominations for 2008-09 Nominations for the 2008 ARIA election slate should be sent to Jim Garven at James_Garven@baylor.edu by February 1.  The final slate of nominees will include two candidates for the position of Vice President and two candidates, one representing industry and the other candidate representing academia, for a board position to 2011.  You are not required to provide a nomination for each office.  For each name you provide, please indicate the position for which you’d like the individual slated.  Thank you.

Excellence in Teaching Award for 2008 This award recognizes excellence in risk management and insurance teaching.  Applicants should have a distinguished record of excellent teaching throughout their academic career.  The Excellence in Teaching Award is a non-monetary award and will be awarded only when an exceptional candidate is identified.  The application and supporting materials should be mailed to Dr. Patricia Born at Cal State University-Northridge.  The application deadline is March 30, 2008.  For additional information and application, please see the attached document.

Robert C. Witt Award Fund Dear Friends, For those of us who were fortunate enough to know him, Bob Witt was a distinguished scholar, an outstanding teacher, a supportive mentor, and a good friend.  He was much like Will Rogers because he had something positive to say about all the people he met and he met many.  He treated everyone with respect and went out of his way to greet newcomers to the ARIA meetings.  Bob enjoyed the learning experience provided by the meetings and always gave constructive comments to those presenting papers.  Many of Bob’s former PhD students and colleagues have benefited from his kind words, humor, and presence. As you know, the Robert C. Witt Award is given annually for the best feature article in The Journal of Risk and Insurance.  Unfortunately, the Robert C. Witt Award is not fully funded.  The monetary award has been suspended by the association until the funding is in place. If you are willing to help, please write a check payable to ARIA and indicate in the check memo or in a note that the donation is intended for support of the Robert C. Witt Award fund.  To those of you who have made a contribution, thank you.  A special thanks to Richard MacMinn for spearheading donation efforts in the Far East.  We hope to raise $20,000 to fund a $1,000 award each year.  Donations can be mailed to the ARIA Executive Office at the following address: Mr. Tony BiacchiARIA Executive Director716 Providence RoadMalvern, PA 19355-3402 Note: ARIA is a 501(c)(3) organization and these donations should be fully tax deductible to the donors. Thank you very much for your support.
