Kulp-Wright Book Award  The Kulp-Wright Book Award is presented annually by the American Risk and Insurance Association to the author(s) of a book considered to be the most influential text published on the economics of risk management and insurance.  The author(s) of the winning publication will be presented with an award certificate at the 2nd World Risk and Insurance Economics Congress (WRIEC) to be held July 25-29 in Singapore. The Kulp-Wright Book Award committee is reviewing publications for the 2010 award.  To be eligible for the 2010 award, the book must have been published in 2008.  The primary contribution of the book should lie in the primary fields of risk management and insurance, and should appeal to a broad cross-section of persons concerned with the fields of risk management and insurance. If you would like to suggest that the committee review a specific book, please send the title, author(s), and publisher information to Tyler Leverty at ty-leverty@uiowa.eduThe deadline for submissions is May 14, 2010.

Bob Hedges Undergraduate Student Award Since 2003, ARIA has offered an annual award in honor of Bob Hedges, an ARIA past president and long time active member of our organization.  This tradition will continue for 2010.  The Hedges Award is made to an undergraduate student studying risk management and insurance, or a related field, and is intended to provide expenses for that student to attend the ARIA annual meeting.  This year’s ARIA annual meeting is part of The 2nd World Risk and Insurance Economics Congress (WRIEC) scheduled for July 25-29 in Singapore.   The Hedges Award contributes to the basic costs of travel, lodging, food and registration fees for the meeting, and is valued at approximately US$1,000 each year.  The selected student will be formally recognized at the awards ceremony at the meeting.  The ARIA annual meeting provides an opportunity for the winning student to attend academic sessions on current topics in risk management and insurance, as well as meet and interact with professors and practitioners involved in the field.  This opportunity would be especially valuable for any student considering obtaining an advanced degree in risk management and insurance.  Proposals are due by May 15, 2010.  Nominated students should be full time undergraduates at the time of nomination.  The winning student will be selected by an awards committee appointed by the ARIA President.

Proposals should include the following:

1.         A brief statement from the student indicating an interest in attending the ARIA    Annual Meeting and describing his/her career plans.
2.         A current copy of the student’s resume.
3.         A letter of recommendation from a faculty member at the student’s college or             university supporting the student’s application.

All proposals should be submitted by email to:

ASSA 2011 Meeting Call for Papers The 2011 ASSA Meeting is scheduled for January 7-9, 2011 in Denver, Colorado.  ARIA has recently joined the ASSA and will have the opportunity to put on one session at the ASSA Meetings.  We are soliciting papers for the ARIA session.  Papers can be on any topic in insurance economics or finance.  Since we only have one session at the meeting, the section process will be competitive.  Ideally, we would like to showcase ARIA and the work our members do so we can attract new members to our annual meeting.  Paper or proposal submissions will be accepted until June 1st.  Completed papers will be given preference and only one submission per author will be considered.

Please send your submission to Martin Grace at mgrace@gsu.edu.  If you are going to the ASSA meetings and would like to be a discussant, please let Martin Grace know too.
