University of Lausanne

 

The Department of Actuarial Science at University of Lausanne in Lausanne Switzerland is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Actuarial Science starting August 1, and applications should be submitted online.  The application deadline is March 17, 2012.  Please see the attached document for additional information.

 

 

4th International Insurance Conference

 

The 4th Insurance Europe (formerly the CEA) International Insurance Conference “Global Market, Global Risks” is scheduled for June 1, 2012 in Amsterdam.  During a full day of debate and discussions, top insurers, regulators and supervisors from around the globe will present the latest thinking on:

·         Regulatory and supervisory initiatives both in Europe and beyond

·         Ageing populations and the pensions challenge

Excellence in Teaching Award for 2012

 

This award recognizes excellence in risk management and insurance teaching.  Applicants should have a distinguished record of excellent teaching throughout their academic career.  The Excellence in Teaching Award is a non-monetary award and will be awarded only when an exceptional candidate is identified.  An award certificate will be presented at the Awards Luncheon at ARIA’s 2012 Annual Meeting.

 

A complete application package should include the following materials:

 

1. Competed Application Form

2. Current Curriculum Vitae

3. Teaching Portfolio that includes but is not limited to:

• Statement of teaching philosophy (not to exceed two pages)

• Syllabi of at least two (2) recent courses, along with at least one example that exhibits the use of active and/or collaborative learning pedagogy

• Summaries of student evaluations (scores and/or comments) for at least two (2) recent courses, along with a copy of student evaluation forms

• Grade distribution for several recent courses

• List of prior teaching awards won (if applicable) along with a description of selection criteria

4. Letters of Recommendation (not to exceed two [2] pages each)

• Two (2) letters from students; the students should not be currently enrolled in your courses or be under your supervision for research or employment

• Two additional letters of support (e.g., from colleagues)

• Additional letters are optional

5. Other documentation

Additional information documenting teaching excellence also may be included. This might include statements of the applicant’s role in attracting RMI majors, the applicant’s role in designing new courses or in using innovative teaching methods, the applicant’s role in program (or major) level assessment of learning outcomes, etc.

Hagan Family Foundation Travel Award for 2012

 

Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Hagen Family Foundation Travel Award.  Awards of up to $1,500 each will be granted to faculty and/or doctoral students who attend and present a paper at the 2012 ARIA Annual Meeting August 5-8 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The application deadline is March 19, 2012.  Please see the attached document for additional information and application.

Bob Hedges Undergraduate Student Award for 2012

Since 2003, ARIA has offered an annual award in honor of Bob Hedges, an ARIA past president and long-time active member of our organization.  This tradition will continue for 2012.  The Hedges Undergraduate Student Award is made to an undergraduate student studying risk management and insurance or a related field, and is intended to cover expenses for the student to attend the ARIA Annual Meeting.  This year’s meeting will be held August 5-8 at The Depot Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

 

The deadline for proposals is May 1, 2012.  Please see the attached document for additional information.  All proposals should be submitted by email to:

Kulp-Wright Book Award for 2012

 

The Kulp-Wright Book Award is presented annually by the American Risk and Insurance Association to the author(s) of a book considered to be the most influential text published on the economics of risk management and insurance.  The author(s) of the winning publication will be presented with an award certificate at ARIA 2012 Annual Meeting which will be held August 5-8 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

 

The Kulp-Wright Book Award committee is reviewing publications for the 2012 award.  To be eligible for the 2012 Kulp-Wright Book Award, the book must have been published in 2010.  The primary contribution of the book should lie in the primary fields of risk management and insurance, and should appeal to a broad cross-section of persons concerned with the fields of risk management and insurance.

 

The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2012.  If you would like to suggest that the committee review a specific book, please send the title, author(s), and publisher information to Tyler Leverty at ty-leverty@uiowa.edu

 

 

Les B. Strickler Innovation in Instruction Award 2012 Call for Proposals

 

ARIA members and others interested in risk management and insurance education are invited to submit proposals detailing innovative ideas they have developed and used in risk management and insurance instruction.  The deadline for proposals is March 30, 2012.  Please see the attached document for additional information or contact Jim Hilliard at jih@uga.edu
