Excellence in Teaching Award for 2012

 

This award recognizes excellence in risk management and insurance teaching.  Applicants should have a distinguished record of excellent teaching throughout their academic career.  The Excellence in Teaching Award is a non-monetary award and will be awarded only when an exceptional candidate is identified.  An award certificate will be presented at the Awards Luncheon at ARIA’s 2012 Annual Meeting.

 

A complete application package should include the following materials:

 

1. Competed Application Form

2. Current Curriculum Vitae

3. Teaching Portfolio that includes but is not limited to:

• Statement of teaching philosophy (not to exceed two pages)

• Syllabi of at least two (2) recent courses, along with at least one example that exhibits the use of active and/or collaborative learning pedagogy

• Summaries of student evaluations (scores and/or comments) for at least two (2) recent courses, along with a copy of student evaluation forms

• Grade distribution for several recent courses

• List of prior teaching awards won (if applicable) along with a description of selection criteria

4. Letters of Recommendation (not to exceed two [2] pages each)

• Two (2) letters from students; the students should not be currently enrolled in your courses or be under your supervision for research or employment

• Two additional letters of support (e.g., from colleagues)

• Additional letters are optional

5. Other documentation

Additional information documenting teaching excellence also may be included. This might include statements of the applicant’s role in attracting RMI majors, the applicant’s role in designing new courses or in using innovative teaching methods, the applicant’s role in program (or major) level assessment of learning outcomes, etc.

ARIA 2012 Annual Meeting Call for Papers

 

The ARIA 2012 Annual Meeting is scheduled for August 5-8, 2012 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The deadline for submissions is February 17, 2012.  Please see the attached document for additional information.

 

In addition to inviting the submission of single papers, the ARIA Program Committee invites members to submit proposals for entire concurrent sessions of one hour to one and one-half hours.  The deadline for submissions is February 17, 2012.  Proposals may be submitted electronically as a file attachment in Acrobat (.pdf) or Word (.doc) format.  Electronic submissions are preferred. If sending in PDF format, all identifying information must be editable. If you decide to submit a hardcopy, please send four copies.  Proposals should be submitted to the ARIA Vice President and 2012 Program Chair:

The Financial Services Institute and the Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University invites papers for a special session on insurance entitled Quo Vadis? Reviewers Needed for Student Research Papers

 

The CPCU Society has received an overwhelming response from college students seeking the CPCU Society Student Research Award.  The Society has received both undergraduate and graduate student submissions.  The CPCU Society Student Research Task Force is looking for academic faculty to judge the papers. A rubric for judging the submissions has already been developed and the expectation is that judges would review only 3 to 4 papers. The time period for judging the papers would be between March 1, 2012 and April 10, 2012.  Interested faculty should contact Tony Biacchi at biacchi@theinstitutes.org

 

 

ACCI Request for Proposals

 

Executive Director and Administrative Services for ACCI

The American Council on Consumer Interests (ACCI) is seeking proposals for Executive Director and administrative services starting May 1, 2012 (with transition in April 2012).  The organization will begin reviewing applications in January 23, 2012, and will continue until a service provider is chosen.  Please see the attached document for additional information.  Applications should be submitted electronically to Dr. Teresa Mauldin, ACCI Board of Directors, at tmauldin@fcs.uga.edu
