  • 2007 ASTIN Colloquium PapersARIA’s upcoming election information
  • Philadelphia Chapter CPCU Society Franklin Award winner announcement

2007 ASTIN Colloquium Papers

Over 40 papers, authored by both practitioners and academics, will be presented at the 37th ASTIN Colloquium. The Colloquium will be held 19-22 June 2007 at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida in conjunction with the Casualty Actuarial Society Spring Meeting. The papers are now available for download from the ASTIN Colloquium web site at www.actuaries.org/ASTIN/Colloquia/Orlando/Papers_EN.htm. Paper topics cover risk management, reserving, and pricing. Pricing issues include applications of credibility, bonus-malus systems, and risk margins, such as those from jump diffusion processes. Several new directions for stochastic modeling of loss reserves are explored. About half the papers concern risk management, subcategories of which include issues involved in strategic and operational risk; applications of risk modeling, such as insolvency risk, reinsurance, capital needs and allocation, market analysis, and strategic planning of subsidiaries; and model building topics, like choice of risk measures, modeling of dependencies, and efficient calculation.  Authors from North America, Australia, and Europe are well represented, but authors from Asia and other locations such as Beijing, Shanghai, Taiwan, Indonesia, Israel, and Iran are also prominent in this year’s list of authors. Plan to attend the Colloquium, not only to hear these papers presented, but to also take advantage of everything else the Colloquium has to offer. All of the details on the Colloquium can be found online at www.actuaries.org/ASTIN2007

ARIA’s upcoming election Last week’s listserv announcement contained the slate of nominees for the forthcoming election of ARIA officers and directors.  Additional nominations may be made and are due to the Executive Office by May 9. Election ballots will be sent electronically to all ARIA members who have paid their dues for 2007.  Please be sure that the Executive Office has your current email address so you will have the opportunity to vote.  If you prefer to receive a paper ballot, please contact the Executive Office at aria@cpcuiia.org or call 1-610-640-1997.

Franklin Award winner The Philadelphia Chapter of the CPCU Society has chosen R. B. DRENNAN of Temple University as this year’s recipient of the Franklin Award. RAY DIDINGER, senior producer with NFL Films and co-host of a Saturday radio show on WIP 610-AM, has agreed to be the Keynote Speaker for this occasion. The Franklin Award Luncheon will be at The Union League in Philadelphia on Thursday, April 19, 2007.  The event starts with cocktails at 11:30 a. m., lunch at 12:15 p.m, followed by the award presentation.

The Franklin Award is presented each year to an individual, group or organization for outstanding achievement and contribution to the insurance industry in the Delaware Valley.
