Robert C. Witt Award FundDear Friends, For those of us who were fortunate enough to know him, Bob Witt was a distinguished scholar, an outstanding teacher, a supportive mentor and a good friend. He was much like Will Rogers because he had something positive to say about all the people he met and he met many. He treated everyone with respect and went out of his way to greet newcomers to the ARIA meetings. Bob enjoyed the learning experience provided by the meetings and always gave constructive comments to those presenting papers. Many of Bob’s former PhD students and colleagues have benefited from his kind words, humor and presence. As you know, The Robert C. Witt Award is given annually for the best feature article in the Journal of Risk and Insurance. Unfortunately, the Robert C. Witt Award is not funded. The monetary award has been suspended by the association until the funding is put in place. If you are willing to help, please write a check payable to ARIA and indicate in the check memo or in a note that the donation is intended for support of the Robert C. Witt Award fund. To those of you who have made a contribution, thank you. We hope to raise $20,000 to fund a $1,000 award each year. Donations can be directed to the ARIA Executive Office at the following address:Mr. Tony Biacchi, Executive Director

JRI 2006 Impact FactorBlackwell Publishing’s representative wanted to share some great news just learned regarding the JRI. The 2006 ISI rankings were just made public, and I am happy to see that JRI’s impact factor was the highest it’s ever been in 2006. As you know, the impact factor takes into account citations from the two previous years, so the 2006 score is based on citations made throughout 2004 and 2005. The impact factor jumped from 0.328 in 2005 to 0.722 in 2006, an increase of over 100%! The journal’s ranking is now 26/42 in the Business, Finance category (it was 34/40 in 2005) and 81/175 in Economics (it was 139/175 in 2005).
This is excellent news! I hope you are proud of all the work you contributed to make this happen. Congratulations!
End
