Minutes of the 1998 Risk Theory Society Meeting
Meeting called to order at 4:30pm by Mark Browne.

Minutes:Two corrections were made to the minutes: Richard Butler was elected as the “secretary” rather than the treasurer, and Harris Schlesinger indicated that the meeting is the “Risk Theory Seminar” and not the “Seminar of the Risk Theory Society.” Minutes, as thus amended, were approved.Treasurer’s Report:Rob Hoyt presented the report. In 1997 more money was spent on travel than normal because requested reimbursement expenses were higher than previously. Mark Browne talked briefly about the reimbursement policy (for presenters without other funds, for the North American portion of their air travel). Some discussion of advertising on the two electronic networks that charge fees: decided that we should continue to do so. Expression of gratitude ensued for Mike Smith’s role as Treasurer, with discussion of how we could raise additional sources of support.Site Selection for year 2000:
Sites nominated for the year 2000 were
- Univ. of Calgary (Ann Kleffner)

- Univ. of Minnesota (Richard Butler)

University of Minnesota chosen in a close ballot.
Officer Elections: Only Rob Hoyt was nominated for the secretary, and won by acclamation. Dick Butler will be the president for the next year, and Mark Browne will be the past president.Arrangements for the 1999 meeting at the University of Michigan briefly discussed.
Recognition of New Life Members: David Nye, Neil Doherty, and James S. Trieschmann.
